Celebrating the Artistic Journey of Judith DesBrisay

A Life In Art

Our recent exhibit was a profound experience, featuring the collected life works of local Artist Judith DesBrisay.

At the opening reception, attendees had the privilege of walking through each piece Judith created over the years, gaining deep insights into the stories behind her art. Thanks to the dedication and extensive knowledge shared by her husband, Mike Cannell, these stories will endure through Judith’s remarkable art.

I found this display of talent to be thought-provoking and touching. If you haven't had the chance, I encourage you to visit before the exhibit concludes on this Saturday February 3rd.

A NEW YEAR FOR NEW ART

Beaux Arts Bazaar -
PICKUP Dates & INFORMATION

As the Holidays draw near and Beaux Arts Bazaar comes to a close, we want to ensure all participating artists are well-informed about the pickup arrangements. The Gift Shop's final day of operation for the year will be this Saturday, the 23rd, closing its doors at 4 pm.

For artists wishing to collect their unsold pieces, we have designated pickup dates from January 3rd to January 6th, between 11 am to 3 pm. Additionally, for those who may find it challenging to visit during these dates, we've arranged an early pickup opportunity on December 28th, from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Should any artist be unable to collect their work during these stipulated times, we kindly request reaching out to us at [email protected] to make alternative arrangements.

Annual Maintenance - Closure at the Gallery

As the year draws to a close, the Quesnel Art Gallery & Gift Shop prepares for its annual maintenance period. Our Gift Shop & Beaux Arts Bazaar will be open for one last time this year on Saturday, December 23rd, we'll be closing our doors at 4 pm.

We will be temporarily closed for a three-week period to enhance and update our gallery space, this time will be used to make some exciting changes and improvements. We appreciate your patience and look forward to welcoming you back to a refreshed environment that celebrates art and creativity.

The Gift Shop will reopen on Tuesday, January 16th, from 10 am to 4 pm. This will be followed by our first exhibit of the year, the Gallery Show Opening Reception will be held on January 18th, from 7 to 9 pm. Join us in the new year for the unveiling of 'A Life in Art', in memory of local artist Judith DesBrisay.

We are thrilled to announce the return of our beloved annual community show, "Art From the Heart." This is a heartfelt invitation to all members of the community to share their creative expressions with our community.

Submissions will be accepted from January 26th through February 3rd. The grand unveiling of this diverse collection will take place on February 13th, marked by an evening opening reception from 7-9. We eagerly anticipate a lively gathering of artists, their families, friends, and community members to celebrate the collective talent on display.

For artists considering the sale of their masterpieces, please note that the Gallery will retain a 35% commission from the sale price. To facilitate the intake process, artists are required to complete an artwork intake form and consignment agreement form upon submission.

'A Life in Art' - in memory of Judith DesBrisay

The Quesnel Art Gallery is honored to host 'A Life in Art', a heartfelt exhibition dedicated to the memory of Judith DesBrisay, a renowned local artist and beloved member of our community.

We will host an opening reception January 18th 7-9pm, attendees will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Judith's artistic journey and the themes that resonated deeply with her. We are grateful to Judith's husband, who will share his reflections, offering a heartfelt glimpse into the life and passion of a cherished local artist.

This show will run until March 6th. Stop in the Gallery Tuesday - Saturday 10 am - 4 pm to check it out.

Beaux Arts bazaar and christmas farmers market!

The holiday season is swiftly approaching, and the Quesnel Art Gallery is excited to present our annual Beaux Arts Bazaar. This festive event has become a beloved tradition for our community. Where talented gallery members showcase their unique, handcrafted gifts, art, and holiday decor. But this year, we're adding an extra touch of exclusivity.

Introducing the "Members-Only Moonlight Shop." On November 17th from 4 till 8pm, we will open our bazaar early for our valued gallery members. It's your chance to be among the first to explore and shop the Beaux Arts Bazaar. Find that perfect gift, one-of-a-kind artwork, or festive decorations for the holiday season.

The Beaux Arts Bazaar officially opens on November 18th and runs through December 23rd. Giving everyone plenty of time to discover wonderful gifts and unique handmade decorations. Inktober 2023

Are you ready to embrace the artistic spirit of October? Inktober is a creative challenge initiated by artist Jake Parker in 2009. What started as a form of practice to improve his own inking skills, has since become a global phenomenon. Each year, artists worldwide eagerly anticipate the arrival of October to take part in this unique event. The concept is simple yet exciting: it starts with a list of prompts, one for each day in October. Artists use ink to bring to life these daily prompts that encapsulate the essence of October, from spooky and scary to cute and cozy. Everyone shares their creations on social media using the hashtag #Inktober. Search the hashtag on instagram to see a vibrant online gallery of Inktober artwork.

Here at the Quesnel Art Gallery, Inktober excites us and ignites a creative spark! So we want to invite our local artists to join in the journey. We'll be sharing the official Inktober prompt list, and we're adding our unique touch to the challenge. To foster community and creativity, we'll be using our very own hashtag, #QuesnelInktober. We hope all artists, regardless of experience, will participate and show off their Inktober drawings.

But that's not all! We're taking Inktober to the streets of Quesnel. Our beloved Little Free Art Galleries will be hosting a special Inktober edition. Spooky surprises and fantastical artworks will pop up all October. Follow us on social media to be the first to find out what curios creations you can collect.

Local artists are invited to contribute their Inktober drawings to these community art spaces. It's a chance to share your work with fellow artists and bring the joy of art to our town. Get ready to witness the blossoming talent of both an experienced artist and her dedicated students. Our upcoming exhibition, "Art Spark Emerging," showcases a stunning collection of watercolor paintings by Vi Martens, and her students. Vi is a valued member of the Quesnel Art Gallery community, and has had many wonderful pieces on display over the years. She teaches watercolour painting classes, nurturing creativity and guiding her students toward their own artistic breakthroughs.

Don't miss the chance to experience the magic of "Art Spark Emerging." Join us on October 18th for a grand opening reception from 7-9 PM. It's an evening filled with artistic inspiration, refreshments, and delightful homemade treats. Beaux Arts is ALmost back!

Believe it or not, the holiday season is around the corner. Here at the Gallery however we're thrilled to announce the return of the Beaux Arts Bazaar! Gallery members, this is your opportunity to showcase and sell your unique creations. Starting in November, our two-month holiday sale will run until December 23rd. Once again the Quesnel Farmers Market will be joining us in the Arts & Rec Centre on select Saturdays in December.

Are you an artist and a member of our gallery? It's time to dust off your masterpieces and prepare for the Beaux Arts Bazaar! This annual holiday sale is a fantastic opportunity to share your talent with the community. We provide table space for our members to display and sell their unique artworks. Join us in making this holiday season extra special with the gift of art.

We require that you have a valid membership with the Art Gallery, sign our consignment agreement form, and submit all pieces with a filled out artwork intake form. THE ART TRAIL IS ON IT's WAY!

The countdown is ON! The annual Quesnel Art Trail will be happening this September, and this year our community will be hosting the Culture Days Kickoff! September 23rd there will be a full day of Arts & Events at Spirit Square! The Art Trail opens the same day and will run until October 15th.

This exciting event can be completed at your own pace and is accessible for everyone! Local artists are partnering with local businesses to showcase and sell some original artworks. This is a chance to experience some never-before-seen Art!

From all corners of Quesnel, journey through the creative minds of our community on the planned route, or stop in and see as many as you can! At the end of the event be sure to enter the draw for one of the exciting prize baskets. We can’t wait to have the Art Trail returning to the streets of Quesnel!

NEW MURALS Bring Life to blank walls

Two stunning new murals have been completed Downtown, thanks to the efforts of talented local artists. These large-scale creations are not only visually captivating but also reflective of the community's pride and creativity. Let's take a journey through these beautiful murals that add a touch of artistry to our town.

A hidden gem awaiting art enthusiasts, the Quesnel Mural Group's incredible sunflower scene. Made possible by the hard work and creativity from artists Maureen Wheeler and Keith Prestone. This Downtown masterpiece can be found a few feet from the post office, nestled between two buildings on the 300 block of Reid Street. A bright sunflower scene, adorned with intricate details and wildlife that brings the green field to life. The painted fence posts add an extra touch of realism, making you feel like you're stepping into a sunflower oasis. This mural is a testament to the beauty of nature and the collective creativity of our community. This breathtaking landscape is the first of many we will see from the Quesnel Mural Group.

Artist Lee-Anne Chisolm has completed yet another impressive mural. The Child Development Centre on the 400 block of Mclean Street offered a uniquely shaped west-facing wall. Thanks to the creativity of Lee-Anne, this wall now features an awe-inspiring depiction of the place where the two rivers meet. Shimmering balloons dance in the sky, representing the joyful spirit of our city. The words "Welcome" and "Dahooja'' invite all to embrace the harmony of our community. Lee-Anne's mural captures the essence of Quesnel's connection to its rivers and the spirit of unity.

These newly completed murals showcase the immense talent residing within our city. The artists' dedication to their craft shines through, adding splashes of color and creativity to our town's landscape. As you stroll through Quesnel, make sure to take a moment to admire the murals and immerse yourself in the stories they tell. These murals not only serve as a testament to the creativity and skill of our local artists but also as a symbol of community pride. They reflect the shared love for our town, its natural beauty, and the things that bring us together.

The completion of these two murals is a cause for celebration, a testament to the flourishing artistic spirit in our town. SORRY WE WILL BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED

We wanted to let you know about an upcoming scheduled closure at the Quesnel Art Gallery and Gift Shop. From September 3rd to September 18th, the Arts & Rec Centre, which houses the gallery and gift shop, will be temporarily closed for essential maintenance. This closure is necessary to ensure the safety and optimal functionality of our beloved arts facility.

While the physical space will be closed, we want to emphasize that our passion for art and creativity doesn't take a day off. During the two-week closure, you can still reach us through email or our social media channels. If you have any questions, inquiries, or simply want to connect with us, we'll be just a message away.

On the evening of June 14th, the gallery hosted an opening reception for "Finding Joy." The Quesnel Art Gallery is excited to present the new art exhibition, "Nurtured in Nature," featuring works by local artists Sandy Meidlinger and Marie Nestel. Sandy's acrylic paintings are a stunning depiction of nature's beauty, while Marie's pottery showcases the raw textures of natural materials.
